Henri Lebasque’s Tasting Fruits on the Terrace at Sainte-Maxime presents a sunlit family scene overlooking the Mediterranean. Figures gather among trees and garden plants around a table laden with fruit, while the blue sea opens beyond the terrace. Softly broken colour and lively brushwork unite the patterned tablecloth, foliage and summer clothing, giving this 1914 composition a sense of warmth, abundance and unhurried domestic life.
