Siesta | Henri Manguin | 1905
Henri Manguin’s Siesta captures a moment of repose beneath the trees, with a reclining figure set against the brilliant blue of the Mediterranean. Broad passages of green, violet and warm red enliven the shaded garden, while the pale dress gathers the reflected light. Painted in 1905, the composition brings the bold colour of Manguin’s Fauve period to an intimate scene of leisure and southern warmth.
