Redouté: Roses
A rose is both a botanical specimen and an opportunity to paint colour, texture and light. Pierre-Joseph Redouté’s Les Roses brought those interests together with exceptional care. Originally issued in three volumes between 1817 and 1824, the work remains central to his reputation as a botanical artist.
This compact 192-page edition introduces the celebrated rose illustrations with text by botanical historian H. Walter Lack. It is a natural choice for readers drawn to flower painting, delicate studies of petals and leaves, and the meeting of art with close observation. This edition contains text in English, French and German. It is an illustrated art book, not a practical rose-growing manual.
